Training and events for coaches

Coaches draw on years’ of experience as an athlete, in a mentoring role, or just simply as a local community member keen to lend a helping hand.

Coaches have to be aware of the latest trends in diet, training methods and motivation techniques.

The Department provides coaches with a wide range of resources, including training clinics and access to the latest research, to ensure they can keep WA athletes ahead of the pack.

Many of the training clinics are also targeted at local community coaches who require basic skills to create a fun and safe environment for children to be active.

The Department of Sport and Recreation is committed to raising the profile, expertise and experience of coaches in Western Australia. Professional development opportunities for coaches are the cornerstone of this process.

We have a comprehensive program to provide accredited training and professional development opportunities for coaches at the community level through to the elite.

Coaches and Officials Breakfast Club

The Department of Sport and Recreation Coaches and Officials Breakfast provides an excellent opportunity for industry sport coaches and officials to gather together and learn from experts in their field.

The breakfast will allow coaches and officials at all levels of sport to gain knowledge and insight into current trends, best practices, programs and initiatives within their fields. In the past a range of local, national and international coaches and officials have attended as guest speakers. This event also provides an excellent opportunity for coaches and officials to network with each other.

Industry Sports Coaches and Officials Awards

The Industry Sports Coaches and Officials Awards was established to provide State Sporting Associations the opportunity to recognise and reward coaches and officials for outstanding contribution and commitment to sport in WA.

In nominating people for the awards sports can celebrate the achievements of their coaches and officials over the past 24 months. This event is committed to providing a platform for sports to recognise and reward their talented coaches and officials and as such there are no overall winners.
