Good governance is a sound investment in quality sport and recreation service provision for the benefit of the Western Australian community.

A board of directors is comprised of directors and committees of management who jointly oversee the governance of the organisation. Within sports clubs and associations, structures that promote and maintain sound governance are critical. The Department provides professional development opportunities for board members to support this outcome. 

The Department is committed through our organisational development team in conducting board evaluations to assist in building the capacity of boards within the industry.

The sport and recreation industry is underpinned by thousands of voluntary board members at club, regional and state association level. The role as a board member, committee member or director can be challenging, rewarding and is one of responsibility.

Advanced Governance for Sport and Recreation Boards Course

6pm to 9pm Wednesday 5, 12, 19, and 26 September 2018. The Advanced Governance for Sport and Recreation Boards Course is a short course for experienced directors of non-profit organisations to enhance their understanding of challenges and improving their decision-making

Board Chairperson Course

6pm to 9pm Tuesday 9 and 16 October 2018. The Board Chairperson has roles in addition to the role of other board members. There are two main aspects to the Board Chairperson’s role (within the Boardroom and outside the Boardroom). Learn the aspects of chairing in a simulated and safe environment.
