A hub of recreational activity over four decades, Ern Halliday Recreation Camp opened 17 November 1976. Since then we’ve welcomed campers with over one million overnight stays.
The recreation camp is named in recognition of Ernest Halliday’s contribution to sport and recreation in WA. Ernest was the Director of the National Fitness Council of WA from 1945 to 1968 which promoted community physical fitness for youth. The Council was one of many past iterations of what is now known as the Department of Sport and Recreation.
In the past eight years our instructors have given campers more than 400,000 active experiences in a range of roping, water-based, land-based and self-directed activities. These programs help kids develop important life skills, contributed to their physical and mental health and promoted the 4th R (Recreation).
Ranging from pitching a tent to dormitory accommodation, Ern Halliday offers affordable outdoor recreation experiences for schools, community and corporate groups.
The future is bright for Ern Halliday over the next 10 years with a vision for further enhancements of existing facilities and plans for new amenities including a new dormitory, dining hall and upgraded tent camping facilities which will improve clients’ experience. The camp is also planning to implement 3km of walking and cycling trails and a new BMX pump track to broaden the recreational activities on offer.
