The Great Southern is a region which offers one of the State's most diverse range of sport and recreation pursuits.
It's a vibrant region for sport and recreation and extends from the coast to stunning inland areas. Activities include hockey, football, cricket and netball to recreational pursuits such as mountain biking, wind surfing and fishing.
The Great Southern has a wealth of state and national team members across a variety of sports, helped by the establishment of the regional talent development body, the Great Southern Sports Talent Association in 2014, with workshops and seminars provided by the Great Southern Coaches Club.
Sport and Recreation (WA) is a division of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
Sport and Recreation (WA) works closely with a range of stakeholders in the Great Southern region. These include local governments, the Great Southern Development Commission, State Government agencies and not for profit organisations.

Through funding from the Sports Lotteries Account, the Department provides free office accommodation to regional sport and recreation development personnel (paid and volunteer) in the Great Southern office. The aim of the Sportshouse model is to support sport and recreation organisations in the delivery of their development services to regional WA.
