Western Australian reaches the top
Patrick Hollingworth recently became the third man in Western Australia to climb Mount Everest.
25 August 2010
The 33- year-old from Perth started his love affair with climbing when he was 18 years of age, and since then has climbed mountains all over the world – Canada, New Zealand, France and Alaska to name a few.
Hollingworth set his sights on climbing the tallest mountain in the world after completing the Rottnest Channel Swim, a long distance swimming race.
One of the reasons Hollingworth is taking on such a challenge is to raise awareness of depression, a disease which affects one out of eight Australians.
On his website, patrickhollingworth.com, Hollingworth talks of how he struggled with depression for over 15 years. He says part of his motivation in climbing Mt Everest was to reduce the stigma associated with the disease and provide support to those suffering from it.
