This first issue focuses on active living and associated health benefits as key themes. Themes for forthcoming issues include community participation, facility management and outdoor recreation.  Each issue will provide details of coming professional development events and include links to useful websites. As the DSR website is updated over the coming months, new features, resources and pages for people involved in active recreation will be highlighted.

Change of face for Outdoors WA

There have been quite a few changes at Outdoors WA over the past few months. With a change of board members the organisation now welcomes two new staff – Executive Officer Jacquie Berkhout and Administration Officer Katrina Vilardi.

Trekking poles help reduce muscle soreness

A study has been done at Northumbria University which shows that hiking with trekking poles helps maintain muscle function and significantly reduces muscle soreness in the days following a hike.

New trail in Shire of Kondinin
