Darren Smith is the 2010 recipient of the Dr Heather MacGowan scholarship, and will be putting the $10,000 to good use. His proposal involves investigating ways to improve access and employment opportunities in the sport and recreation industry for remote Aboriginal communities.
Darren teaches outdoor and physical education at the Wongutha Christian Aboriginal Parent Directed School, and was chosen for the scholarship for his potential to make a significant contribution to the sport and recreation industry.
The Dr Heather MacGowan Scholarship was initiated in 2004.
The scholarship pays tribute to the life’s work and achievements of Dr Heather MacGowan, a former long term employee of the Department of Sport and Recreation and committed sport and recreation mentor and participant.
