The AquaGasc 'Splash' Week program offers all aquatics training courses in one location during one week each year, significantly reducing costs and increasing the convenience to participants.
When DSR Gascoyne's Administrative Assistant Trish Ouellette tested the water with her idea to run this unique training opportunity in the Gascoyne, she had no idea it would be such a resounding success.
"Participants came from all four major centres within the Gascoyne region to participate in the inaugural AquaGasc 'Splash' Week program in October 2009, and 24 people completed 27 accreditations which is a major achievement," Ms Ouellette said.
"Aquatics is the most popular recreational activity in the Gascoyne region during the summer months, so the benefits of the program to our local aquatics industry are sure to flow on to reach many people in the community."
Through the program, community members, swim coaches and
aquatic enthusiasts and professionals had the opportunity to be trained in
a variety of aquatic programs such as Bronze qualifications, Junior Squad and
Assistant Coach qualifications, Senior First Aid, Pool Life Guard and Austswim
training.
Planning is already underway for the 2010 program.
