Regional Flight Assistance Program

The Flight Assistance Program helps with the development of sport in regional areas. It also provides emerging regional athletes with access to development opportunities.

Purpose

The Regional Flight Assistance Program assists with the development of sport and recreation in Regional WA. This program allows the department to offer regional people opportunities to access the latest information through training courses, best practice management and governance in sport and recreation through the provision of air travel.

Virgin Australia is our airline partner for the Great Southern, Goldfields and Mid West regions. Their support by supplying free air travel to the regional cities of Albany, Geraldton, Esperance and Kalgoorlie ensures such opportunities will build the capacity of sport and recreation in these regional centres as well as supporting athletes in their development.

The Gascoyne, Pilbara and Kimberley regions utilise an allocation through Active Regional Communities (Sports Lotteries Account) to service the North West cities of Kununurra, Broome, Karratha, Port Hedland, Denham, Carnarvon and Exmouth.

Active Regional Communities (ARC) caters for both sporting and active recreational groups through funding from the Sports Lotteries Account (sporting groups) and the Sports Wagering Account (active recreation groups).

The regions of Peel and Wheatbelt are not serviced through the Regional Flight Assistance Program.

Who can apply?

Regional sport and recreation associations apply on behalf of coaches, umpires, referees, trainers, administrators and athletes.

How to apply

It is a requirement to liaise with the regional office of the Department of Sport and Recreation prior to submitting your application. This will allow you to discuss your project with department staff to determine if it qualifies for other DSR assistance.

Your application must be endorsed and submitted by the relevant State/Regional Sporting Association and submitted to the appropriate DSR office four weeks prior to the proposed initiative. All flights must be booked and taken by 10 August 2013.
