AIEO’s were introduced to the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) ‘Yulunga – Traditional Indigenous Games’ resource and the AASC program, along with a brief practical session in coaching.

The session was well received, and generated much discussion around potential initiatives to further engage locals in traditional Aboriginal games.

“Through this initiative, and future developments, we hope to build the local capacity to a self-sustainable level in regards to sport and physical activity,” said Indigenous Sports Development Officer for the Peel and South West regions Trevor Stack.

Proposed future developments include whole-school professional days involving participation  in traditional games, the completion of Community Coach Training programs for AIEOs, and the use of these skills and resources in the delivery of in-school and AASC programs.

“The commitment and enthusiasm of the AIEO’s was inspiring, with many positive outcomes on the horizon for both the AASC program across the state, and the local communities that are involved,” AASC Regional Coordinator for the Peel region Mat Glasson said.
