Recreation programs at Point Walter

Activities available at Point Walter Recreation and Conference Centre.

Roping programs

Roping and initiative/team activity including crate climb. Rope and harness activity.

Water programs

Land programs

NOTE: All equipment is supplied for participants in all our activities at the Point Walter  Recreation and Conference Centre. All instructors have a working with children check (WWC) and Senior First Aid as a minimum qualification. Other specialist activities are conducted by staff with appropriate and current qualifications for that activity.

Client Responsibilities

All client groups with participants under the age of 18 years MUST supply appropriate adult supervision at each activity site. Point Walter staff will supervise the clients in relation to their safe participation in the activity; however client groups have the responsibility to monitor the behaviour of participants in matters not relating to the activity. (e.g. a teacher would be responsible for a student leaving the activity area to change footwear or sport officials would discipline poor behaviour of players.)

Clothing and Attire During Programs

Because of the active nature of the programs offered, participants must wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Enclosed shoes are required for all land-based programs. Thongs or sandals are not suitable except for beach programs such as Surf Skiing and Raftmaking. However, enclosed waterproof shoes are also strongly recommended for all beach programs.

Participation in land-based programs will not be allowed for persons wearing sandals or thongs.

Short tops (e.g. crop tops) that leave the mid-riff exposed are not suitable for roping programs such as abseiling or rock climbing. Necklaces, chains, scarfs or similar articles are to be removed from around participant's necks before the commencement of any roping program. Similarly large or lengthy earrings and exposed body piercing may need to be covered or removed on request from the instructor in charge.

Department of Education and Training (DET) guidelines

Most Outdoor Adventure Recreation Programs at Point Walter meet or exceed the DET guidelines for outdoor pursuits. In consideration of specific environments at the site, variations from the DET guidelines exist to increase safety.

NOTE: Point Walter management strongly recommend that all groups intending to use the pool or the Swan River use qualified life savers through the camp for water safety. All groups should check with their governing bodies to make sure that their water safety is in accordance with official procedures and guidelines.

Disability Access and Inclusive Programs

The Point Walter Conference Centre and Camp is designed to meet disability access standards and the centre includes hard surface paths, ramps, and disabled shower/toilet facilities in all accommodation and meeting room areas. In addition to this, our recreation programs have been modified to include activities such as wheelchair abseiling, flying fox, archery and paddling. Please contact staff at Point Walter Centre prior to your stay to discuss access requirements.
