Premier Colin Barnett today announced the State Government had appointed global firm Populous as architectural consultants for the new major stadium at Burswood Peninsula.

“We promised the best and we are delivering,” Mr Barnett said.
Using the latest trends in stadium design, Populous will develop a detailed brief for the architects selected to design the Perth Stadium.
“Populous will consult with key stakeholders including the various sporting bodies to ensure we take the right brief forward to the next stage of the project, and the stadium meets their myriad needs,” the Premier said.
“This will include providing the best spectator viewing option for sports like rugby and soccer that require a rectangular playing field.”
Mr Barnett also announced the Perth Stadium steering committee’s recommendation to locate the stadium on the northern portion of the Burswood Park Golf Course.
Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the location was chosen after extensive soil testing, and consideration of proximity to transport options and land tenure.
“One of Populous’ tasks will be to determine the stadium’s orientation within the nominated area,” Mr Waldron said.
Mr Waldron returned this week from a 10-day international tour of leading, world-class stadia.
“What the travelling party took away from the stadium tour was the importance of flexibility and adaptability in the stadium design,” he said. “By placing a strong emphasis on the fan experience and getting ahead of the curve in the use of cutting edge technology will ensure we have a stadium future generations of West Australians can be proud of.”
