New manager for the DSR Peel team
With a life-long passion for sport and recreation and eight years of experience in local government, Cary Green has stepped up to the plate as the new Manager of the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) Peel office.

Cary started in the role in July 2010 and intends to take a strategic planning approach to sport and recreation in the region.
“The landscape of the Peel region has changed quite significantly over the past 10 years – the region has gone from being a ‘retirement area’ of sorts to having a lot of young families and a lot of active participation in sport,” he said.
“The Peel is a massive growth area so it’s important to take a strategic planning approach and get the facilities right.”
Cary was previously Director of Corporate and Community Services at Shire of Augusta Margaret River where he worked for four-and-a-half years of his eight-year local government career.
He is passionate about sport and recreation, having played cricket for about 30 years, a sport he has also coached.
Cary is also active in the sporting pursuits of his children in roles that have included coaching, with his son playing League football for Peel Thunder and his daughter tennis and netball.
Having lived in various parts of regional WA for about 13 years – including three years each in Kalgoorlie, Albany and the Busselton/Margaret River areas – Cary knows all about the importance of sport and recreation at a community level.
“Sport and recreation is the basis of communities in regional areas. It’s about leading a healthy lifestyle and from my perspective about the many friendships I’ve been able to build over the years having moved around a fair bit as a family,” he said.
“Sport and recreation has been a great avenue to fit into the local community. It’s really an icebreaker. We’ve met a lot of our family friends through sport.”
DSR welcomes Cary to its team and wishes him every success in his new role.
