Minister for Sport and Recreation

Deputy Leader of the Nationals WA, Terry "Tuck" Waldron is the Legislative Assembly member for the seat of Wagin.
Minister's message
As someone who comes from a sporting and country background, I highly value teamwork. I am also passionate about the way sport and recreation contributes to building stronger, healthier, happier and safer communities across many areas, including improving our health and improving educational outcomes.
While I'm aware of the benefits, I'm also aware of the problems facing clubs; particularly with regard to volunteers, the coaches and officials, who are the lifeblood of any organisation. Other issues include the maintenance and development of facilities.
The value of sport and recreation is sometimes under-estimated. When we look at things like education, health issues and crime, I really strongly believe that sport and recreation plays a huge part in the prevention of a lot of the associated problems in those areas. It builds people. It provides community leaders.
I want to see sport and recreation playing a major role in Western Australia but not just on the sporting field: right across all levels, and not only contributing to Western Australia economically, but also developing people's skills across business and all sectors.
I'll be moving around the State in the next few months, listening to people, trying to gauge how the government can work with communities, organisations and clubs to further enhance our lives through sport and recreation.
I look forward to hopefully meeting with you.
Yours in sport,
– Hon Terry Waldron MLA
