Kimberley youth get their share of holiday fun
There was a huge amount of fun to be had in some of Western Australia’s smaller communities during the January school holidays.
08 April 2011
Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan employees conducted a range of quality school holiday programs in communities and towns across the East Kimberley.
Local Garduwa staff worked closely with Youth Diversion and Community Development Officers, the shires of Wyndham and Halls Creek and other organisations, including Save The Children and the Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service, to deliver the programs.
Towns and communities including Kununurra, Wyndham, Warmun, Kalumburu and Halls Creek were among those visited.
Students enjoyed a range of sports, games and competitions including swimming, basketball, soccer and cricket.
Other popular activities were movie nights, discos, cooking, arts and craft and video games.
The school holiday programs were a huge hit with the kids, particularly in the smaller communities such as Kalumburu and Warmun, where the children often have little else to keep them occupied.
The activities attracted a good number of participants, with some activities such as the discos having over 100 students in attendance.
