The Goldfields Sports Star of the Year Awards recognize excellence across all sports in the Goldfields in the categories of Sports Star, Rising Sports Star, Masters, Disabled Sports Star and the Service to Sport (Volunteers) award categories.

1. Nominations will be accepted by completing a nomination form, which is available at the Department of Sport and Recreation, 106 Hannan Street, Kalgoorlie.
2. Applications will be accepted on the following residential criteria:

   • The nominee will reside in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kambalda or Coolgardie; or

   • The nominee will participate predominantly in sporting activities conducted within the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kambalda or Coolgardie unless the sport does not allow the opportunity to compete within the region; and

   • The nominee is a member of a City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kambalda or Coolgardie club or Association unless there is no association or club within the region.

3. The nominee will only be accepted for individual achievement or where individual achievement has been recognised from within a team. Team achievement will apply as supporting evidence to your individual application

4. There will be five categories:

   Masters Sports Star of the Year

   Will be the Age Category as written by the Club / Association's State body's current competition Rules and Guidelines, being classified as an over-age event E.g. ‘Masters' or ‘Veterans'. Participants may be eligible even if competing in local competitions not necessarily prescribed as ‘Masters' or ‘Veterans'.

   Sports Star of the Year

   Will be the Age Category as written by the Club / Association's State body's current Competition Rules and Guidelines, being classified as an ‘OPEN' event. Open to all ages.

   Rising Sports Star of the Year (Juniors)

   Will be the Age Category as written by the Club / Association's State body's current Competition Rules and Guidelines, being classified as a ‘JUNIOR' event.

   Service to Sport Award (Volunteers)

   For outstanding service to a Club or Association over an extended period of time.

   Disabled Sports Star of the Year

   Participants must be 12 years old and above. Physical and/or intellectual disabilities will be considered eligible for this award.

5. All awards will be Age Category as determined by the club / Association State body's current Competition Rules and Guidelines.

6. The nominees shall be selected on their achievements, from 1st October 2008 to midnight the 30th September 2009.

7. Nominations cease as at midnight 2nd October, 2009.

8. The judges have the discretion to make decisions with a unanimous vote of the judges' panel and will have the final decisions and no other correspondence will be entered into.
