Introduction

The State Government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) provides significant grant funding for sport and recreation facilities in Western Australia.

Recipients of CSRFF funding are required to acknowledge the State’s contribution in various ways. Grant recipients with a total project cost of over $250,000 (exclusive GST) are required to install signage at various stages of the projects.

This guide provides instructions to grant recipients to assist with the installation of onsite signage during the construction period.Signage acknowledgement

Signage acknowledgement

The State Government more generally installs project signage to provide information to the public about activities happening in their community. The basic principles of the Government’s advertising and communications policy include informing the public about their rights and entitlements and raising awareness of planned or impending initiatives. This style guide offers a framework for CSRFF grant recipients to produce professional, effective and consistent signage that can inform the public about the State’s contribution to their project and provide information about the individual project.

During construction signage

Grant recipients for projects that suit the criteria are required to install signs in accordance with this guide for the duration of construction. The cost of signage should be incorporated into project expenditure at the time of application. Sign design templates and the latest version of the signage guidelines are available on this page. Please note at the completion of the construction stage of the project a permanent State Government sign will be forwarded to your organisation for installation at your facility.

Criteria

During construction phase signs are installed on projects where:

  • There is sufficient foot and/or vehicular traffic to justify installing a sign,
  • The project is valued at more than $250,000, and/or
  • The project is of significant community interest or profile to warrant it.

If the total project cost is under $250,000 and the grant recipient wishes to erect signage, then that signage must also adhere to these guidelines.

Signage approval

A final PDF of signage artwork must be emailed to to the Department for approval before any production commences.

Compliance and grant acquittal

To ensure that the State Government’s signage requirements are being met as outlined in Grant Agreements (and where the signage criteria are being met) the Department will conduct random audits of CSRFF projects.

When submitting CSRFF progress claims grant recipients must submit photographic evidence that a construction sign has been erected as per this guide.

Design templates

Design layout

In order to maintain some consistency, a series of design templates have been developed for use by grant recipients. Each template consists of three parts:

  1. State Government band
The top strip, which acknowledges the State government’s involvement
    is fixed and consistent in all signs;
  2. Grant recipient area
    The second section is more flexible and provides scope for the recipient to provide some information about the project, such as its name, an image of high quality, where to get more information, and other project details. While there are default fonts and positioning suggestions shown (for cases where the recipient doesn’t have alternatives), this section is essentially ‘free space’ and can be adjusted to suit the branding or style of the grant recipient should they wish;
  3. Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC)
The bottom section has one fixed position while the rest of the space allows for the placement of logos acknowledging other funders, clubs, Council or relevant interest groups if/where appropriate.

Templates

There are 3 size options of signs and there are two versions of each:

  • ‘with image’ for where there is a quality image that adds to the communication
  • ‘no image’ for situations where there is no image.

The combination of images and text shown on the following pages are examples only.

PDF or EPS templates of these signs are available and must be used.

The design templates that will be supplied are at one quarter final size.

  • Small 2400 x 1800mm
    Sign 1.1 (with image)
    Sign 1.2 (no image)
  • Medium 4800 x 2400mm
    Sign 2.1 (with image)
    Sign 2.2 (no image)
  • Large 7200 x 3600mm
    Sign 3.1 (with image)
    Sign 3.2 (no image)

Selecting a template

When deciding what size and whether to include an image, the following should be considered:

  • visibility of sign location
  • profile of project
  • amount of information that needs to be communicated.

Suggested content and style

  • Include the full project name
  • A quality graphic showing what the completed project will look like is highly desirable
  • Information about the project. Depending on the size of the sign
  • Minimal punctuation is used
  • A website address which can offer more information is desirable. Websites appear without http://www prefix eg. dlgsc.wa.gov.au
