Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme

The Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme provides funding assistance to regional Western Australian athletes who aspire to reach their full sporting potential.

The Regional Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme (ATSS) is an initiative supporting regional athletes who have progressed into the high performance pathway of their chosen sport and are pursuing regional, state and national representation.

Eligible regional athletes can receive funding for out-of-pocket travel and accommodation expenses directly related to competitions and programs in accordance with the performance level categories and eligibility criteria outlined in the application guidelines.

Subsidies for regional athletes are provided through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Program.

Previously the Department has supported a travel subsidy for both regional and metropolitan athletes. Unfortunately over recent times funding provided to the sport and recreation industry has been impacted by a number of factors. This has required difficult decisions regarding allocation of budgets across a range of programs. In the current financial climate, funding is no longer available to support the continuation of the metropolitan component of this scheme.

Before you begin your application

  1. Only applications from regional athletes will be accepted.
  2. Read the guidelines and have all the required information at hand before proceeding online, as you will not be able to save your information if you need to exit your application.
  3. Refer to your sport’s specific pathway mapping document to determine if the event you wish to apply for is eligible.
  4. Only individual applications can be accepted (no team applications).
  5. Only one application per athlete per sport per round will be considered for support.
  6. Ensure that the event you are competing in is approved by your State Sporting Association.
  7. Ensure that you have been selected via the high performance pathway established by your State Sporting Association.
  8. Athletes are eligible to apply for ATSS more than once per financial year, provided any subsequent application is for a different performance category.
  9. If successful, your funds will be paid directly into your bank account, therefore, please ensure you provide your correct bank details to avoid any payment delays.
  10. The Department reserves the right to randomly audit successful athletes as outlined in the Terms and Conditions.

Please note:

  • Performance Category 1 (national teams representing Australia in international competitions) and Performance Category 2 (national squads attending national team selection commitments) are no longer eligible for subsidy support. Applicants should read the new guidelines before commencing an online application.
  • Only athletes that reside in regional Western Australia are eligible for subsidy support.
