Back in the 1960s, competition in what was then ‘soccer’ was played almost weekly on the foreshore parklands by locals in the burgeoning city of Perth.

On October 10 this year, Langley Park will see a football tournament take place across the day played by people from many culturally diverse backgrounds, most first-generation Australians and recent arrivals that will compete with fun and friendship in a colourful day of football.

WA Police and Football West, with support from National Security, Smarter than Smoking and Perth Glory, are bringing this event to the people of Perth and ensuring that the Multicultural Friendship Games (aka Footy with the Fuzz) day is fun, free and open to all the community to attend.

“Football has for-ever been known as the world game and Perth Glory is delighted to be part of the ‘Fuzz’ Multicultural Friendship Games,” said Perth Glory CEO Paul Kelly.

“It’s a wonderful concept and a great community initiative between Football West and WA Police.”

The 2009 instalment received a sports industry award and accolades from the Office of Multicultural Interests; however this year is set to be even bigger and more involving for the members of emerging communities.

First matches kick off after 9.00am and the finals commence from 2.45pm and run until 5.00pm.

There will be a special appearance from stars of Perth Glory, plus children’s football clinics, displays and multicultural music.

Food will be available for the public to purchase as well with a barbecue running throughout the day, supplying food which is also certified Halal to ensure sensitivity to diverse requirements.
