What the department does
Sport and recreation makes an important contribution to society.
The Western Australian Government has consistently committed to supporting the development of a sustainable and diverse sport and recreation system in WA that encourages participation, develops talent and contributes to the health and wellbeing of individuals and groups in Western Australia.
The Department of Sport and Recreation is the lead agency responsible for the implementation of government policy and initiatives in sport and recreation.
A key role of the department is to contribute to the healthy lifestyle of Western Australians by increasing physical activity in the community through sport and recreation.

- Provide consultancy services and resource support to individuals, organisations and community groups delivering sport and recreation.
