Cool change for Derby's swimming pool
With daytime temperatures sitting on 40 degrees for eight months of the year, it's not hard to see why recent upgrades to the Derby Memorial Swimming Pool have sent ripples of joy through the community.

The result was smiles all round as the redevelopment culminated in an Open Day and Official Opening, offering a chance for the Derby community to enjoy a free day at the renovated facility.
Officially opening the pool was Lynette Craig, the National Party Candidate for the Federal seat of Durack, and Elsia Archer, the Shire President of the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley.
The facility's latest feature – the water park – was turned on, and the fun was capped off with plenty of games, face painting, a free barbeque and slushies.
"There was a great turnout and the day was a huge success," said DSR Manager Kimberley Dean Holder.
"With the climatic extremes that are experienced in Derby, having a modern and fun aquatic facility is extremely important for the health of the community."
The redevelopment was completed in three stages, and funding was sourced from different agencies, including the Department of Sport and Recreation through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).
Stage 1 of the redevelopment involved works on the plant room, painting and retiling of the pool, rubber non-slip surface around the pool and the aquatic playground. The money for this stage was sourced from DSR's CSRFF, and further funding was also contributed by the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley.
Stage 2 of the redevelopment was the refurbishment of the office/kiosk area, upgrade of change rooms and the security to the pool entrance.
The final stage of the redevelopment was to improve fencing around the facility, landscaping and a shade structure for the aquatic playground.
