Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said demolition of the landmark race tower was first step in the multimillion dollar redevelopment.

“The State Government has committed $15million to upgrades at the track - an investment for all classes of motor sport,” Mr Waldron said.

Work on the track and associated infrastructure necessary to host a V8 event includes:
• modern infield pit lane complex (including exit and entry from track and associated safety walls)
• new medical centre
• communications upgrading
• better lighting
• realignment of safety fences at corners five, six and seven.

Executive director of Eventscorp David van Ooran said this year’s return of V8 Supercars to Perth had been a great success.

“With the upgraded facilities at Barbagallo Raceway, next year’s event is guaranteed to be even better,” he said.

“The upgrades will benefit competitors, organisers and spectators and ensure this event continues to grow.”
