11 December 2009
Katanning won the Commitment to Participation Award and the prestigious $10,000 Minister’s Award for Excellence in recognition of the shire’s implementation of a range of programs and initiatives at Katanning Leisure Centre aimed at engaging community members from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds in sport and recreation.
Manager DSR Great Southern Chris Thompson said he was delighted to see a local shire recognised for going above and beyond expectation and taking an innovative approach for the benefit of its residents.
“The work of the Shire of Katanning, and in particular Manager of Community Services Carl Beck and his team, is a prime example of the community spirit that underpins sport and recreation in regional areas and shows that organisations and councils in regional areas are capable of being among the most innovative in the state,” Mr Thompson said.
“On behalf of DSR Great Southern Office I congratulate all at the Shire of Katanning on their wonderful programs and their success at the awards.”
