Competition ‘finds’ footy club a $1,000 winner!
The Edgewater Woodvale Junior Football Club has won $1,000 thanks to the Department of Sport and Recreation’s (DSR’s) ‘Find a Club’ database.
05 May 2010
The club took out the prize simply by updating its details on ‘Find a Club’, a searchable online database that allows people to find and contact sport and recreation clubs in their area.
The club is known as the ‘Eagles’ by its loyal supporter base, and Club President Gavin Piggot was chuffed to give them another reason to cheer.
“I’m told it was a pretty easy competition to enter, and it will certainly help with the development of our players,” Gavin said.
The club plans to use the money to assist with the development of its coaches.
“We think that by putting money into helping our coaches that it will flow onto the development of the kids,” Gavin said.
“We’ll also be using the money to buy equipment like bump bags and the other accessories, which will help the coaches do their job and help the players improve.”
Anyone interested in becoming involved with the Eagles as a player or volunteer can find out more information at www.ewjfc.asn.au.
The competition may be over, but clubs state-wide are encouraged to register on ‘Find a Club’ for the first time or update their details.
“The ‘Find a Club’ database exists to help clubs get their details out there, and is a great way to attract new members,” said DSR Project Officer Jacqui Jashari.
“’Find a Club’ sits on the department’s new Clubs Online website, which provides a place for WA sport and recreation clubs to communicate with other clubs and Club Development Officers.
“The site offers a free, easy-to-build website for clubs, plus forums, Club Development Officer blogs, an online community calendar, resources, a research lab and more.”
