The focus of the program is encouraging children with and without disabilities to become active.

The PEEL DSR organised sports show bags with donations from different Peel clubs.  These included:

  • AFL small footballs
  • Eagles Posters
  • Dockers Posters
  • Soft Cricket balls
  • Mandurah Magic key/neck holders,
  • Mandurah Magic drink bottles
  • Mandurah Magic stickers
  • Cricket drink bottles
  • Peel Thunder stickers
  • AFL stickers
  • Active after school stickers
  • Active After School tattoos
  • Active after School show bag
  • Play AFL 9’s brochures

The children were delighted with the introduction day with an opening welcoming session followed by a Sports show bag presented by the Department of Sport Recreation.  The footballs donated by Peel Thunder, Western Warrior cricket balls and drink bottles from Mandurah Magic were the biggest hits amongst the kids.

Leanne Peebles, Regional Officer from the Department of Sport and Recreation was delighted to be invited to participate in this inclusion program.  "The program provides a safe environment for the kids to participate in a mix of sports and interact with children that they may not normally interact with.  They are developing relationships, building self confidence and improving their social skills, all of which are important life skills."

Increasing participation in sports and recreation in low participation groups, such as culturally and linguistically diverse people, is part of the DSR's Community Participation Funding Scheme.
