Club mentoring program for the South West
The Department of Sport and Recreation with support from the South West Development Commission will deliver a Club Mentor Program in three South West communities over the next 12 months.
25 July 2012
This exciting club development opportunity will be provided in Manjimup, Margaret River and Collie. These towns were identified as places where the program could have the greatest impact on communities.
The program aims to provide four clubs from each of the towns with valuable skills and knowledge to equip them to cope with the growing demands faced by regional sports.
The Club Mentor Program will allow each club to have regular contact with a reputable mentor, Ian Crawford from Candor Training, who will identify specific needs within each club and provide assistance in their development during the year.
The assessment panel has reviewed the applications and selected the following clubs and associations to be part of this exciting initiative:
- Shire of Manjimup – Manjimup Country Club, Lower South West Soccer League, Manjimup Basketball Association, Tigers Football Club.
- Shire of Collie – Collie Basketball Association, Collie Swimming Club, Collie Horse and Pony Club, Coalfields Hockey Council.
- Shire Augusta-Margaret River – AMR Junior Football Association, Margaret River Underwater Hockey Club, Margaret River Little Athletics Club, Margaret River Netball Association.
Successful clubs have been notified and will commence working with the appointed Club Mentor Ian Crawford in coming weeks. The department is excited about this opportunity and looks forward to working closely with the clubs and associations to develop their abilities to become and remain sustainable entities into the future.
