Shaun Paul, 12.Currently there are only two skateboarding accredited coaches based in Western Australia. This program aims to accredit at least 10 metropolitan and five regional coaches in 2010.

Assistance to cover travel costs is available to regional applicants. More accredited coaches in WA will provide local councils with skilled resources within their local area to use for workshops and coaching clinics.

Skateboarding Coaching Clinics are held infrequently, so skateboarders from Queensland will also be flying to Western Australia in order to participate in the course.

The two day course is scheduled for the 27 and 28 March 2010 and will be held at YMCA HQ (Leederville). After completing the course participants undertake supervised and unsupervised coaching hours to complete the accreditation process.

Other elements of the two year Department of Sport and Recreation project includes skateboarding workshops and developing pathways for WA skateboarders to compete in local, state and national competitions. Over 20 skateboarders who placed in the top six of their divisions at the State Skateboarding Finals last month will be heading to Sydney in April to represent WA.

There are no costs to participate in the two day Skateboarding Coaching Course.  Limited places are still available. Interested parties must be aged 16 and above and are asked to contact Gemma Richman for further information on 9328 3221 or gemma.richman@ymca.org.au.
