Call for volunteers – Armadale Midnight Basketball
The City of Armadale is calling for volunteers to be a part of the second season of Armadale Midnight Basketball – the successful Saturday night youth sport and activity program.

With the eight-week competition having started at the City’s Armadale Arena on Saturday 31 July, helpers are needed to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Armadale Mayor Linton Reynolds said the community-based Midnight Basketball program was a great opportunity for people to work with youth.
“Volunteering is a rewarding experience and this program is both locally-run and really worthwhile,” Cr Reynolds said.
“You can help out every night of the competition, or on selected dates and knowledge of basketball is not necessary for many of the roles.
“Local businesses could assist the program by providing some employees to volunteer or some financial support so the program can continue in 2011.”
Armadale Midnight Basketball was launched locally in May this year to provide kids aged 12-18 with a safe, healthy and supervised sports program on Saturday nights – traditionally a time when there are few services and activities available for youth.
Basketballers arrive at 7.30pm, enjoy a nutritious meal and play at least three basketball games. Life skills workshops are compulsory for all participants and at the end of the night, the kids are taken on a bus safely home to their front door.
Armadale Midnight Basketball is funded until December 2010 by the WA Department of Sport and Recreation and Midnight Basketball. The tournaments are organised with the assistance of the PCYC, City of Armadale, Department of Child Protection and Armadale Police.
