What is Midnight
Basketball?
Midland Midnight Basketball is a basketball program for at-risk kids aged 12–18. The program is run in a tournament format and involves kids getting a feed, doing a workshop and playing four games of basketball before being dropped home tired at midnight every Saturday night for eight weeks.
The program gives kids a positive alternative at a time of the week when they might otherwise be getting themselves in trouble and draws between 60 and 120 children every night.
Workshop presenters this tournament include Junior Masterchef judge Anna Gare, former Chicago Bull Luc Longley, former Docker Dale Kickett and West Coast Fever player Josie Janz.
Staff include local youth workers, who have ongoing relationships with the kids and do a fantastic job of keeping the tournament free of misbehaviour, and tournament manager Griffin Longley.
How do I register my interest or find out more?
Email Griffin Longley at midland@midnightbasketball.org.au or go to www.midnightbasketball.org.au, place your cursor over the Locations tab, click on Midland, click on Volunteers, then click on Register and fill out the electronic form.
