Biggest contingent of WA athletes leave for Delhi
Western Australia looks set to have a record number of athletes in the Australian Commonwealth Games team this year.

Currently 35 WA athletes have had their selection confirmed by the Australian Commonwealth Games Association for the 2010 team, equalling the record number set in 2006.
However, with the women's hockey team to be announced on Friday, Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the prognosis looked bright for WA to record its highest-ever representation.
Mr Waldron officially farewelled the WA athletes at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre this afternoon and said he was sure the WA team members would continue the State’s proud record of achievement at the games.
“We’ve got a great record in Commonweatlh Games, which stretches from the time Perth hosted the then Empire Games in 1962,” he said.
“Ever since, we’ve always had exceptionally strong representation and success.”
With the men’s hockey team including locals Fergus Kavanagh and Trent Mitton spearheading the medal quest, WA athletes are set improve on their tally of 30 medals in 2006.
WA regional athletes have made a strong impact on the team, with nine selected overall, and three – Ben Offereins, Jody Henry and Kimberley Mickle – originally from the Rockingham/Mandurah Athletics Club.
The games will be held in New Delhi, India, from 3–14 October.
