In order for public aquatic facilities to be successful, they should be safe, healthy, enjoyable, affordable and easy to operate. Maintenance of high standards of water quality is critical to achieving these outcomes and ensures users will return.

This focus paper introduces the key elements of water treatment for public aquatic facilities and disinfection. The definition of disinfection is removing the risk of infection.

Choosing the best disinfection system can be difficult.  This paper outlines the issues to consider when selecting filtration and disinfection equipment and examines the options available. It is in two parts: Part A relates to the filtration and hydraulics factor; Part B the disinfection factor.
