Skywest support taking Kimberley sport to new heights

Through a partnership with Skywest Airlines, the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) is able to make greater headway in the development of sport and recreation in regional and remote Western Australia, including the Kimberley region.

Skywest logo The Skywest Airlines Country Sport Development Program assists in the development of sport in country areas served by Skywest Airlines.

It does this by providing free travel for presenters and officials to attend development activities and for talented sports people to attend talent identification and development activities.

During the past year, Kimberley sports organisations and athletes have been provided with a total of 13 flights to facilitate a wide range of training and people development opportunities, to be accessed across the region.

These great initiatives from local clubs and shires are listed below:

  • Shire of Derby West Kimberley – Pool Operations Course
  • Broome Soccer – Football Australia Junior Coaching Licence
  • Broome Touch Association – Touch State Titles – Refereeing & Officials Course
  • Garnduwa – Level 1 Referee Course and Clinics
  • Garnduwa – Maree Ansey – Indigenous Basketball Player and role model
  • Broome Tennis Club – Tennis Australia Tournament Planner Workshop
  • Broome Speedway – Scrutineering Course
  • Kununurra MX Club – Level 1 Operating Officials Training Course
  • Broome Golf Club – Golf Clinics at Kimberley Women's Champion of Champions
  • Broome Barracudas Swimming Club – Official training and time trials courses
  • Broome Tri Sports Association – Stuart Fuller – Technical and Sactioning Official to assist with the event
  • Broome Golf Club – Andrew Gott – Professional Golfer – Broome Community and Indigenous Junior and Adult Coaching Program
  • Broome Netball – Umpire and Player Development – Rules in Action
