Interim BSA Chair Dean Holder said the awards, to be held at The Oaks Resort in Broome, were a great way to recognise those who helped to make Broome sport.

"The event will give all sports an opportunity to nominate award recipients in five categories, namely Sports Star of the Year, Rising (Junior) Sports Star of the Year, Service to Sport, Volunteer of the Year and a Special Recognition category," Mr Holder said.

"The awards night, and indeed the BSA, was established with the intention of bringing the sporting community together. The Sports Star Awards are a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge some of the many sporting achievements of 2009 and celebrate the key role that sport plays in the Broome community."

Nominations for the awards are now open. Nomination forms can be collected from Sportshouse at 2/23 Coghlan Street, Broome or by emailing dean.holder@dsr.wa.gov.au.
