Making a 'Splash’ in the Gascoyne
In partnership with the Shire of Carnarvon, Royal Life Saving, Swimming WA and Austswim, the Department of Sport and Recreation Gascoyne office will be delivering the inaugural AquaGasc ‘Splash’ Week Aquatics Development Program at the Carnarvon Aquatic Centre from Saturday 17 October to Sunday 25 October 2009.

Community members,
swim coaches and aquatic enthusiasts and professionals will have the
opportunity to be trained in a variety of aquatic programs such as Bronze
qualifications, Junior Squad and Assistant Coach qualifications, Senior First
Aid, Pool Life Guard and Austswim training.
“With over 40 expressions of interest being received over the past few weeks, numbers so far indicate there is definitely a demand for aquatics training in the Gascoyne region,“ said DSR Manager Gascoyne Salvatore Siciliano.
“We have endeavored to cater to the community’s needs by partnering with key training providers in the area of aquatics training and formulating a program that will be convenient for people around the region to attend.
“AquaGasc ‘Splash’ Week was the brain child of our Administrative Assistant Trish Ouellette, with the aim of complementing the DSR Gascoyne office’s commitment to developing clubs and volunteers through an innovative program.
“Travel and accommodation subsidies are available for people travelling from outside of Carnarvon and we encourage participants to take up this opportunity.”
The AquaGasc ‘Splash’ Week forms part of the bigger picture to expand community capacity by providing training opportunities for people, and building a stronger, healthier, happier and safer Gascoyne region in the process.
