Celebrating WA South West style
Big kids of the South West it’s time to get out of the office and experience lunch time activities with a difference as part of our region’s Celebrate WA Week festivities.
07 October 2009
Located at several sites around Bunbury, the lunch time activities will be held over two days on Tuesday 20 October and Thursday 22 October from 11.30am to 2pm and are sure to challenge your idea of being physically active.
Activities will include inflatable squash, the Wii Sports challenge and a bungee run, with the only prerequisite being the ability to have a go and have fun.
The Celebrate WA activity days have been developed by the Department of Sport and Recreation’s (DSR) South West office in partnership with South West Sportshouse, Australian Sports Commission (ASC), South West Country Health, Active Rural Communities and the City of Bunbury.
“The DSR South West office wanted to recognise Celebrate WA Week as a perfect opportunity to encourage all those people toiling away in their workplaces to venture outside into the sunshine,” DSR South West Manager Troy Jones said.
“Hopefully taking part in the community event will inspire people to continue the habit of getting out of the office and going for a walk around the inlet, for instance. We have such a beautiful environment, why not enjoy it over a lunch time?”
‘Push, Paddle or Plod’ will be held on the Tuesday at the Bunbury Rowing Club when bikes and kayaks will be available for free use. Alternatively people can take a walk along a section of the Leschenault Inlet.
The Thursday event will be held at the Bricknell Sound Shell and include ‘Have a Go’ activities including an inflatable squash court, inflatable hockey, AFL handball competitions and a corporate orienteering event around the Bunbury central business district.
Corporate orienteering teams of four people are asked to register with the DSR South West office prior to the day.
For any activity on Thursday, the first 100 registrations receive a free, healthy lunch to energise them for the fun ahead.
WA Week is an annual event held in 2009 from 19 to 25 October. It is a state-wide initiative for all Western Australians to celebrate our unique heritage and culture and to embrace our community with pride and inclusivity.
