The Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) Pilbara office get together with local sporting club representatives every three to four months to share information, discuss regional issues and highlight past and upcoming activities.
"It's an opportunity to share information between Local Government Authorities from a facilities perspective, discuss projects on the go and gives sport and rec representatives time to talk about any challenging issues and how others may have dealt with them," DSR Pilbara manager Nick Sloan said.
Hosted by DSR in partnership with the Shire of Roebourne, this month's meeting was held at the Karratha Aquatic Centre, Tuesday 18 August 2009.
The Shire of Roebourne's Jenni Brown updated people on the Shire's current position on the Bulgarra Sporting Precinct Master Plan Implementation and the Karratha Learning and Leisure Precinct.
The evening also provided DSR Manager Pilbara Nick Sloan with the opportunity to recognise the 2009/10 Regional Coaching and Officiating Scholarship winners with their certificates and shirts.
Congratulations go to this year's Pilbara winners - John Bennetts (Karratha BMX), Amanda Clark (Karratha Gymnastics) and Karen Woods (North West Netball Region).
Department of Sport and Recreation Pilbara Indigenous Sports Development Officer Victor Bellotti, gave a clear sign that the Roebourne Active program was working well in the community, and requested that clubs contact him to help get new sporting opportunities happening for the Roebourne Active program kids.

People passing through Roebourne on a Monday and Thursday afternoon will see a mass of happy faces as the local kids get out there with 'Roebourne Active', a physical activity initiative responding to the lack of local organised sport and recreation.
Increased support needed to move towards a more active Roebourne
