Exmouth to host the Gascoyne Games 2009
Exmouth is this year's host of the Gascoyne Games after they were last held in Carnarvon three years ago. The Games will be held over the weekend of 2, 3 and 4 October 2009.

A working group has been formed to coordinate the organisation of the Games and consists of the participating clubs, shire officers, and is chaired by Exmouth Shire Councillor Bob Todd.
"With the Gascoyne Games we aim to organise more than just a great sports event; we also like to build on the regional spirit by uniting the Gascoyne Community through a weekend participation in various sporting and recreation activities", Cr Todd said.
"We all live in remote areas and the opportunity to compete in sports against people from other towns is always exciting for both players and spectators".
The Department of Sport and Recreation will assist with the introduction of a demonstration sport and provision of opportunities for various sports to develop
across the Region.
Many clubs in Exmouth are very keen to put the challenge to their fellow clubs in the Gascoyne region to come over and compete. So far the following clubs have indicated to participate: golf, squash, darts (women and men), eightball, sailing, tennis, lawn bowls and swimming.
Together they are now working out the details for the weekend, including fixtures, welcome and closing ceremonies and hopefully some surprises as well.
Cr Todd said the first major sponsors were already on board with the Shire of Exmouth and Apache Energy offering substantial contributions towards the Games.
"Of course we understand that the Gascoyne games are also about winning, so there will be medals and the Perpetual Trophy for the overall winning town, that is, if we can find it, because the trophy somehow got misplaced after the last Games", Cr Todd said.
Gascoyne region clubs, but also individuals interested in participating in the Gascoyne Games are encouraged to approach their local Shire officers in the
coming weeks for more information.
