Climate change crisis
Global warming is a buzz word in today’s society, and it is hard to deny the effects of global warming on our environment, in particular on our public land and parks.
01 July 2009
Global warming is the result of increased greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
These emissions have been blamed for major environmental changes such as increased temperature and extreme weather conditions (floods, fire, droughts etc).
This has caused a major increase in the cost of maintaining and overseeing public park and recreation facilities.
Not only have these facilities been impacted but how we spend our leisure time has been compromised.
River water flow has changed, therefore impacting kayakers and canoeists.
The summer months have also become so much hotter, impacting the pleasure of outdoor activities, and the winter season has become shorter, impacting on winter activities.
