2009 Geraldton Guardian Mid West Sports Awards

Nominations are now open for the 38th Annual Mid West Sports Awards.

The longest running regional sports awards in WA, the Mid West Sports Awards are run by the Geraldton Mid West Sports Federation in partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) and the Geraldton Sporting Aboriginal Corporation.

"The Mid West region boasts some of the most amazing sporting talent, both on and off the field," said DSR Manager Mid West Gary Clark.

"One would only have to take a look at our impressive and well-documented list of high profile athletes to see the huge role sport and recreation plays in our communities, and our off-field stars are also first class.

"These awards bring these people together to recognise their achievements and commitment to sport and recreation across the region.

"The fact that a majority of the people recognised are one hundred per cent voluntary makes this occasion even more special and important." 

The judging period will take place in October and September 2009, with the awards to be announced on 7 November 2009.

The 11 award sponsors and categories are:

  • Crothers Family – Senior Sports Star of the Year
  • Gindalbie Metals Ltd – Junior Sports Star of the Year
  • Geraldton Greenough Financial Services – Team of the Year
  • Still's Sports Alliance – Coach of the Year
  • City of Geraldton-Greenough Aquarena – Administrator of the Year
  • Ian Blayney MLA – Official of the Year
  • Grant Woodhams – ATLAS Inclusion Award
  • Brian "Putter" Smith – Sports Personality of the Year
  • Geraldton Mid West Sports Federation – Mid West Hall of Fame
  • Jason Simpson Memorial – Senior Aboriginal Sports Star of the Year
  • Sports Power Geraldton – Junior Aboriginal Sports Star of the Year

Applications close on 16 October 2009, and nomination forms are available from the DSR Mid West Office.
