A recent Access Economics study estimated that in 2008, obesity directly contributed to approximately 645,000 of all cases of cardiovascular disease, 242,000 of all cases of type 2 diabetes and 30,000 of all cases of colorectal, breast, uterine and kidney cancer.

For WA, this translates to approximately 64,000 cases of cardiovascular disease, 24,000 cases of type 2 diabetes and 3,000 cases of cancer in one year alone.

The Draw the Line campaign, funded by the Department of Health, Western Australia, aims to prevent unhealthy weight gain among WA adults.

Being overweight is a key risk factor for a host of chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer and type 2 diabetes.

The new campaign communicates the simple steps people can take each day to help achieve and maintain a healthy weight. An information booklet is also available.
