The game was supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation, which provided a $27,000 grant through its Country Sport Enrichment Scheme.

Not only did the event give members of the Pilbara community a chance to see elite athletes perform and to interact with sporting role models, it also aimed to develop the games of tee ball and baseball in the region.

A range of clinics were held before and after the game to develop the skills of local coaches using modern day coaching techniques, increase the number of accredited umpires and scorers in the region and help to develop an event management plan for future state versus state games in the area.

Perth Heat and SA Bite coaches and players were involved in the running of the clinics, which included visits to Baler, Port Hedland, South Hedland and Cassia primary schools, Hedland Senior High School and St Cecilia's College.

Hedland Academy also benefited from a high performance training session.
