Good vibrations in the Goldfields
The Goldfields got its share of good vibrations when a festival for young people incorporating music, sport, education and healthy living was staged in Kalgoorlie.
29 January 2009
Vibe Alive was held over two days on Wednesday and Thursday 5-6 November 2008.
The festival offers young Australians of all backgrounds a chance to sing, dance, play, create and learn in a high-energy, youth-friendly setting.
The environment encourages festival-goers to express themselves, share their talents and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
Participants also have the opportunity to explore healthy living and career options and boost literacy skills.
Australian Idol Casey Donovan and So You Think You Can Dance? star Courtney Walter joined the festivities. The pair performed for festival-goers and judged students' performances, offering the aspiring singers and dancers advice and inspiration.
Former Harlem Globetrotter and now Vibe 3on3 resident MC Dwayne Cross also made an appearance.
Celebrity guests performed at a free community concert, which was capped off with a barbecue and fireworks.
The overall Vibe Alive trophy was won by Team Pythons from Kalgoorlie Primary School, and a medal presentation and closing ceremony closed one of the biggest youth festivals ever held in the region.
