2008 Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash
The Gascoyne was abuzz with the all fanfare and enthusiasm of the Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash on Friday 31 October to Sunday 2 November.
20 November 2008
The event was a spectacular street parade of man and machine, with crews travelling to Carnarvon from all over Australia to participate.
All up there were 150 competitors in 10 classifications, as well as an impressive 100-strong crew of volunteers who generously gave their time to help out.
The dash is a point-to-point race over a varied landscape – a true cross country course consiting of natural desert and outback terrain.
Covering more than 500 kilometres over the two days, the dash is long and tough, and is an ultimate challenge for motor sport participants.
DSR Manager Gascoyne Salvatore Siciliano said since its inception as a white water dash in 2000, many people have nurtured the evolution of the race into a national-standard desert motor sport event.
"The Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash is a great model for demonstrating how a community has trained and developed themselves on how to develop, organise and stage an event of this magnitude," Mr Siciliano said.
"When you think of the physical challenges and the logistics involved in staging this event, this is an amazing achievement.
"We are hoping in 2009 that we can use the Champions to the Regions Scheme funding to secure interstate participants."
Congratulations to the committee, members and the many volunteers and competitors on another successful event.
DSR provides annual funding to the Gascoyne Off Road Racing Club through the Sports Lottery Account Country Package. Staff from the department usually attend the dash and assist as volunteers.
