The awards have been presented every two years since 2004 and celebrate the outstanding achievements of people and organisations who have worked with Healthway to promote health throughout Western Australia.

"Every one of the 2008 award winners and finalists are shining examples of what can be achieved by a commitment to and passion for success and, in some cases, thinking outside the square," said Healthway Chairperson Jenn Morris.

The Smarter than Smoking Country Sport Scholarships provide opportunities for young country sports men and women to access sport participation and talent development pathways, and act as role models through a scholarship incentive scheme.

Selected athletes – who have been identified by their State Sporting Association as having potential to reach State or national selection – are provided with assistance for sport development directly associated with their performance.
