In 2006, The WA Sports Federation (WASF) was funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) to engage the services of a Working with Children (WWC) Project Officer for 12 months.  The primary responsibilities of that officer include creating awareness and providing support to the wider sport and recreation industry in adopting the provisions of the Working with Children Act 2004.  Since February 2006, the WWC project officer has implemented a Public Education strategy that targets sport and recreation stakeholder groups such as state sports associations; sport and recreation clubs; local government authorities and recreation centres in WA.
