Create checklistGain Management Support

It is essential to gain management support before you can implement a successful corporate health and well-being program.

Management will need to be convinced of not only the health and well-being benefits of a program, but also the bottom line benefits.

Assess the Current Situation

There are different methods you can use to ‘diagnose’ your workplace and your employees:

1. Employee Survey

An employee behavioural survey is a good way to discover the areas in which employees need assistance to improve their health and well-being.  It is a good starting point to help develop your objectives for the program.

There are a number of good quality employee behaviour surveys available online.  A selection can be found below.  You can modify these to suit the needs of your organisation or just use them as they are.

2. Workplace Assessments

An audit of the workplace is an important tool to measure changes in the physical workplace environment that may occur as a result of your workplace program.

An audit of the organisation is also good way to begin to understand the culture of the workplace and the way in which the organisation operates.  This will also help determine the priority areas for your program.

3. Employee Preferences

A wants assessment (or a needs assessment) will help you to determine what kind of activities and programs employees would be willing to take part in, as well as to pin point what they would like to see happen in the workplace and what they identify as important.
